City of London Academy Students Set Sail on the Solent!
Published: Fri 16 October 2026Last week, twelve of our students, studying the Level 2 Specialist Maritime Qualification, had the opportunity of setting sail around the Solent, off the South Coast. This was to provide experience in natural and open waters, as well as them gaining evidence for the successful completion of their qualification.
The students were welcomed on board Challenger Boat 5 at 7.00am and set off on their voyage from Portsmouth Harbour. Students were quickly involved in hoisting sails and taking them helm as they navigated their way around the Solent. The crew returned to Portsmouth Harbour having completed a successful day’s sailing on a tall ship. Even though the conditions were tough, the students were excellent in their conduct and application of skill and a great time was had!
Well done boys.
